RIVER FALLS, Wis. — The UW-River Falls men's soccer team was victorious 2-0 against UW-Stout on Sunday, Oct. 27 at Ramer Soccer Stadium.
The victory came in UWRF's first home game in nearly a month, as the team returned to River Falls after four straight road matches. The win today improved the Falcons' record on the season to 7-8 overall and 3-1 in WIAC play.
In the first half, UWRF quickly took control of the game with a goal in the ninth minute. Sophomore midfielder Sorel Richardson scored for UW-River Falls, off an assist from freshman forward Ben Harris.
The score would remain 1-0 through the first 45 minutes, but both teams put together numerous looks toward the goal, as the Falcons held an 11-6 advantage in shots.
The second half saw the Falcons press the ball forward and create a number of chances, looking to extend the team's lead. UWRF totaled 19 shots in the second half, as well as adding 10 corner kicks to an impressive total of 12 corner kicks for the game. The Falcons held a 12-2 advantage in corners and an 11-3 advantage in shots on goal at the conclusion of the game.
UWRF secured its victory with a goal in the 79th minute, as freshman defender Ashton Musgrave placed a free kick perfectly in front of the goal for freshman forward Landon Christiansen to score. The goal for Christiansen is his 11th of the year, which ranks second for goals scored in the WIAC.
Kellen Richardson led UWRF with three shots on goal, while Sorel Richardson had a match-high six shots. Christiansen added five shots, as the Falcons saw a total of 12 players record at least one shot in today's victory. In goal, freshman Alvaro Boned recorded three saves and tallied his third clean sheet of the season.
Up next, UWRF is set to host Hamline on Oct. 30. The match, which will be held at Smith Stadium at Ramer Field, will kick off at 7 p.m.
