WHITEWATER, Wis. - The UW-River Falls men's and women's track & field teams wrapped up competition on Saturday during the second day of the 2024 WIAC Indoor Championships on the campus of UW-Whitewater.
The men finished eighth with eight points while the women also finished eighth with 11 points.
At day one of the conference championships,
Annika Gunderson recorded a runner-up and All-WIAC finish in the women's pole vault. Her mark of 3.87 meters (12 feet, 8.25 inches) not only is a personal record, it improves upon her UWRF record set last season.
After placing ninth after day one of the men's heptathlon events,
Jacob Balcome closed out the event competing in the 60-meter hurdles, and pole vault, and didn't finish the 1,000-meter run. He finished with 3,887 points points to place 15th. His top finish came in the high jump with a third place mark of 1.87 meters.
The Falcons had a strong showing in both the men's and women's 800-meter run.
Dylan Wachter clocked a season-best 800-meter run time of 1:54.14 to place sixth and collect three team points for the men, while
Cailyn Kuechle notched a personal best time of 2:18.75 to finish just outside the podium in ninth place.
The men's and women's 4x400-meter relay teams both set season-bests. The men's time of 3:26.79 was good for fifth place, as the crew of Wachter,
Matt Boche,
Trever Jensen, and
Logan Munson earned the men four team points.
The women's 4x400m team of
Jaidyn McAlpine,
Sarah Hansen,
Megan Halbach, and
Peyton Opsahl had a season-best time of 13:15.34 to finish seventh.
Sam Peters and
Megan Halbach were named to the All-WIAC Sportsmanship Team.
UWRF will await for potential entries for the NCAA Indoor Championships, set for March 8-9 in Virginia Beach, Va.
