RIVER FALLS, Wis. - The UW-River Falls women's hockey team earned a 16-7 win over Cornell College during its 2024 home opener at Ramer Field Sunday afternoon.
The Falcons, now 3-0 overall, outshot the Rams 31-12, were successful on 12-of-14 clear attempts and led 17-7 on draw controls.
Brooke Glumack and
Samantha Hayek combined for 15 Falcon points, including nine goals. For the third game in a row, Hayek scored six goals to lead the Falcon offense. Glumack led the Falcons with five assists, while
Emma Heerey and
Bailey O'Donovan both had two goals apiece.
UWRF jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the first quarter before Cornell broke the shutout seconds into the second. The Falcons responded with four straight goals to claim a 9-1 lead at halftime, which was enough room to secure the win. Hayek's unassisted goal at 7:42 of the second stood as the eventual game-winner.
The Rams pushed back in the second half, scoring six goals compared to UWRF's seven, but didn't come any closer than a six-goal deficit.
Kayden Hersback and
Abby Hammond split time in net, combining for five saves. Hersback made the start and picked up the win, improving to 3-0 overall.Â
