AURORA, Ill. - The UW-River Falls women's lacrosse team fell 18-17 in double overtime at Aurora University Saturday afternoon.
The Falcons, now 3-1 overall, tied the game late in regulation with a
Megan Peter goal to force overtime, but the home team prevailed just 17 seconds into the second overtime period to earn the win.
UWRF outshot Aurora 36-27 and forced 32 Spartan turnovers. Aurora held the slim edge on draw controls, 21-20.
In the first 15 minutes, UWRF led 7-4. Aurora answered by outscoring the Falcons 6-4 in the second to tie the game at halftime, 11-11.
The second half featured a slow third quarter and thrilling finish to regulation, including Peter's goal to force overtime. After a scoreless first overtime, the Spartans' Danielle Cobbett scored early into the second OT to hand UWRF its first loss of the season.
Bailey O'Donovan scored five goals to lead UWRF, while
Samantha Hayek and Peters both had four. Hayek tallied three assists to own the team's scoring lead with seven points.
Abby Hammond and
Kayden Hersback split time in net, combining for six saves.
UWRF travels to face the University of Chicago on Monday.
