Softball Splits against Brockport, Ramapo

CLERMONT, Fla. – The UW-River Falls softball team split its pair of Wednesday games during its fourth day of spring break competition, defeating SUNY Brockport before falling against Ramapo College.

UWRF (8-4 overall) has tomorrow off before facing St. Lawrence and Middlebury on Friday.

UW-River Falls 9, SUNY Brockport 2
After being held scoreless through five innings, the Falcon bats broke loose in the final two innings, scoring four in the sixth and five more in the seventh, while starting pitcher Lindsey Duggan threw her first complete game of the season with eight strikeouts.

Trailing 1-0 in the top of the sixth, the Falcons got on the board with a Hannah Effertz two-run double, taking a 2-1 lead. Kayla Dolan followed with a sacrifice fly to score Effertz, and a Johanna Breyen fielder's choice scored Jewel Waupekenay to put the Falcons up by three runs. 

UWRF scored five more in the seventh off six hits, including back-to-back RBI singles from Breyen and Maddie Koch.

Waupekenay led the team with two hits at the plate.
 
Ramapo 3, UW-River Falls 2
After an early Falcon lead, the Roadrunners scored twice in the fifth and another in the seventh to earn the win.

An RBI single from Breyen score Grace Gardner in the second inning and the Falcons held a lead for two more innings until Ramapo scored twice in the fifth. UWRF answered in the bottom half to tie the game at 2-2 with an Effertz sacrifice fly.

Knotted at 2-2 in the seventh, the Roadrunners plated the game-winning run with a sac fly. 

Both teams tallied eight hits, including two each from Breyen, Kelly Aultman, and Gardner.

Maggie Wallin pitched a complete game and totaled eight strikeouts.
