RIVER FALLS, Wis. - The UW-River Falls women's lacrosse team defeated Illinois Wesleyan University 17-11 Saturday afternoon at Ramer Field.
The Falcons, now 5-3 overall, open their WIAC schedule next Wednesday at UW-Stevens Point.
While the Falcons opened the game taking a 5-0 lead after the first period, the Titans opened the second frame with five straight goals to tie the game, and outscored UWRF 7-4 in the second to trim the Falcons' halftime lead to 9-7.
UWRF then outplayed IWU in the second half, holding the visitors to four more goals while scoring four in both the third and fourth periods. The Falcons led by as many as six with
Holly Eckers' third goal of the game late in regulation.
The Falcons led in shots on goal, 32-26, were successful on 19 of 25 clear attempts, and led 17-14 on draw controls.
Samantha Hayek led the Falcons with four goals and six points, followed by three goals each from Eckers,
Emma Heerey,
Grace Hannula, and
Brooke Glumack.
Alivia McClinton collected five ground balls while Heerey caused four turnovers.
Kayden Hersback made her second start of the weekend and made a career-high 15 saves to improve her record to 4-3.
