EAU CLAIRE, Wis. - The UW-River Falls women's lacrosse team earned an 18-12 conference road win at UW-Eau Claire Wednesday afternoon.
The Falcons, now 8-3 overall and 3-0 during WIAC play, were paced by the trio of
Samantha Hayek,
Bailey O'Donovan, and
Grace Hannula, who combined for 10 goals and 23 points.
Hayek set a UWRF single-game record with eight assists. The previous record was five, held by several Falcons during UWRF's six-year program history.Â
O'Donovan tied her career and season-high with five goals to lead the Falcons while adding three assists, followed by a season-high four goals from
Grace Hannula.Â
Kayden Hersback earned the start in goal, collecting eight saves to improve her record to 5-3.Â
UWRF jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first quarter and didn't look back, maintaining an advantage throughout regulation. The Blugolds came within one goal of the Falcon lead in the second quarter, but the Falcons answered with three goals to close out the half leading 11-8. A 4-0 run late in the third and into the fourth quarter gave UWRF some breathing room, leading 16-10 with 11:18 left to play.Â
As a team, UWRF outshot UWEC 35-27 and led 18-15 in draw controls. Additionally, the Falcons caused 11 Blugold turnovers and went 21-for-25 on clear attempts.
