STEVENS POINT, Wis. - The UW-River Falls women's lacrosse team earned a 20-8 win at UW-Stevens Point Monday afternoon.
The Falcons, now 7-3 overall and 2-0 during WIAC play, outshot the Pointers 34-11 and caused 17 turnovers in the first ever meeting between the Falcons and Pointers, with UWSP in its inaugural season of women's lacrosse.
UWRF was paced by a strong first half, scoring seven goals in each of the first two periods, claiming an 11-goal lead at the intermission. The Falcons then outscored UWSP 6-5 in the second half to seal the win.
Eight Falcons found the back of the net, led by four goals from
Kinlee Knutson and a seven-point game from
Emma Heerey, who scored twice and tallied a career-high five assists.
Behind Knutson and Heerey's efforts,
Samantha Hayek and
Sydney Chance-Farley each had three goals, followed by two apiece from
Holly Eckers,
Brooke Glumack, and
Bailey O'Donovan. In addition,
Eleanor Thompson-Witt scored her first goal as a Falcon late in regulation off a free position attempt.
Kayden Hersback and
Abby Hammond shared time in net. Hammond made three saves while Hersback made the start to earn the win.
The Falcons continue its WIAC road schedule on Wednesday, traveling to UW-Eau Claire.
