MOORHEAD, Minn. — The UW-River Falls men's soccer program defeated Concordia 1-0 in Moorhead, Minn. on Wednesday, Sept. 18.
The win, which is the program's first ever victory on the road, snapped a three-game losing streak and improved the team's record to 2-3. Freshman Landon Christiansen scored the deciding goal, his fourth of the season.
Christiansen's game-winning goal was scored in the 13th minute, off an assist from Holden Leifer. Concordia maintained possession deep in its own territory, before Leifer sweeped the ball away from a defender and found Christiansen in the box, who avoided the oncoming goalkeeper and put the ball into the back of the net. The goal is the fourth of Christiansen's career, while the assist is the first for Leifer.
The Falcons went into halftime leading 1-0, after building up a 7-5 advantage in shots.
In the second half, UWRF held a 4-2 advantage in shots and limited Concordia from creating an equalizer-goal. Freshman goalkeeper Alvaro Boned recorded three saves in the clean-sheet victory, after starting in goal for the second time in his career. He now has 14 saves on the season.
Up next, the Falcons head to Minneapolis, Minn. to face off with Augsburg on Sept. 22. Kickoff is scheduled for 5 p.m.
