SALEM, Ore. — The UW-River Falls women's lacrosse team started off its three-game span of games in Oregon with a victory against Willamette in Salem, Oregon on Tuesday, March 18.
The Falcons won 17-12, marking their second highest goal total of the season so far and improving the team's record to 3-2. Brooke Glumack led the way with seven points off three goals and four assists.
The game started off back and forth, as both teams took turns scoring goals until it was tied at 2-2, which stood through the end of the first period. Brooke Glumack and Natash Berthiaume scored the first two goals for River Falls.
Goals from Murphi Specht and Samantha Hayek saw UWRF take a 4-2 lead, before the Bearcats rallied three straight. Both teams exchanged a flurry of goals before halftime, as the Falcons went into the break trailing 7-6.
The third period was a turning point, as the Falcons totaled 11 shots and outscored Willamette 7-2. Hayek, Specht, and Molly Pierce scored two goals each and Glumack added one, as the Falcons took a commanding 13-9 lead into the final frame.
UWRF outshot Willamette 8-5 and held a 4-3 advantage in goals in the fourth period, securing a 17-12 win to open the spree of road games in Oregon.
Hayek finished the day with five points off four goals and one assist, while Specht tallied five points off three goals and two assists. Julia Hayek and Lilah Gilyard led the team with three caused turnovers each, while Specht and Kylah Kink had a team-high six draw controls each.
In goal, Isabel Orton tallied her second win of the season. Annelise Rommeck also recorded three saves.
Next up, UWRF will be back on the field tomorrow in Newberg, Oregon. The Falcons will face George Fox at 5 p.m. PT.
