RIVER FALLS, Wis. — The UW-River Falls women's lacrosse team defeated UW-Stevens Point 20-3 at Ramer FIeld on Wednesday, April 23.
The Falcons jumped out to a big lead early and never looked back, as part of a strong offensive effort in which River Falls held a 39-8 advantage in shots and a 31-5 lead in shots on goal. The win improved UWRF's record on the season to 10-5 overall and 5-3 in WIAC play.
The game started off with a 6-0 run for the Falcons within the first 11 minutes of play. Samantha Hayek scored four of her six first-half goals in the opening 6-0 run, as she finished with seven points off six goals and one assist. A 12-1 advantage in shots on goal in the first quarter saw UWRF take a commanding 7-1 lead into the first intermission.
The second quarter saw similar success for UWRF, as the Falcons held a 6-1 advantage in goals off an 8-3 edge in shots on goal. After UW-Stevens Point scored to make it 8-2, UW-River Falls bounced back with a 5-0 run that helped the Falcons lead 13-2 at halftime.
The run continued into the third quarter, as the Falcons pulled ahead 17-2, capping a 9-0 run. The third quarter saw a 10-0 advantage in total shots and a 5-0 lead in shots on goal.
UWRF added a 4-1 fourth quarter, walking off with a 20-3 victory at home.
As a team, the Falcons forced 34 total turnovers and went 17-19 on clear attempts. UWRF held a 28-11 advantage in ground balls and finished with a 31-5 advantage in shots on goal.
Annelise Rommeck earned the win in goal, improving to 5-2 on the year. Hayek finished with a game-high seven points off six goals and one assist. Brooke Glumack totaled five points off four assists and one goal. Natasha Berthiaume added three points off two goals and one assist.
The Falcons' 20 goals as a team is just three shy of tying the program record for goals in a game.
Up next, the Falcons will host the Blue Devils of UW-Stout at Ramer Field on April 26. The game is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m., and the game will mark the program's 2025 senior day.
