EAU CLAIRE, Wis. — The UW-River Falls softball team lost both games of its doubleheader at UW-Eau Claire on Wednesday, April 30.
The Falcons held an early lead in game two, but an overall strong offensive effort by the Blugolds tilted the games in favor of Eau Claire. The doubleheader moved UWRF's record on the season to 19-19 overall and 3-9 in WIAC play.
UW-Eau Claire 10, UW-River Falls 0 (5 innings)
In game one, the Falcons trailed 3-0 heading into the top of the third, before a huge seven-run inning by the Blugolds tilted the game toward UW-Eau Claire. After falling behind 7-0, a three-RBI double by UW-Eau Claire saw the lead extend to 10-0.
The Falcons totaled five hits and moved runners to second and third in the top of the fifth, but the Blugolds managed to keep UWRF off the board.
Abby Pitts led the way with two hits, while Grace Gardner, Kelly Aultman, and Kayla Dolan each totaled one hit.
UW-Eau Claire 11, UW-River Falls 3 (5 innings)
In game two, the Falcons took a 3-1 lead in the top of the third, behind a two-RBI double by Kelly Aultman to score Grace Gardner and Alexa Dusterhoft. Kayla Dolan later scored Aultman on a single.
After UWRF took the lead, UW-Eau Claire responded with four runs in the bottom of third, two in the bottom of the fourth, and four in the bottom of the fifth to win in five innings. The Blugolds scored 11 total runs off 12 hits, while UWRF was held to three runs off six.
Aultman led UWRF's efforts at the plate with two RBIs and one run scored, while Hannah Effertz went 2-3.
Next up, the Falcons will return to River Falls to conclude the 2025 regular season with a doubleheader against No. 19 UW-Whitewater. The games are scheduled to begin at 1 p.m., and the Falcons will honor the following graduating student-athletes: Kelly Aultman, Lindsay Duggan, Emily Crowe, and Maddie Koch.
