Men's Hockey to host St. Olaf & Saint Mary's

The UW-River Falls men's hockey team is set for a pair of non-conference home games this weekend at Hunt Arena, hosting No. 14-ranked St. Olaf College and Saint Mary's University.

UWRF TO HOST EMPLOYEE & FAMILY APPRECIATION DAY SATURDAY, JAN. 17
UW-River Falls Athletics, in partnership with the Chancellor's Office, will host Employee and Family Appreciation Day on Saturday, Jan. 17 at the Falcon Center, welcoming UWRF employees and their immediate family members for a full day of Falcon athletic action.

Admission is free for employees and their immediate family members with a valid UWRF employee ID. Complimentary refreshments will be available from 2-3 p.m. in the Royal Credit Union (RCU) Conference Room, located on the second floor above Page Arena. Cookies, hot cocoa, and coffee will be served during the first intermission of the women's hockey game or prior to the start of the women's basketball contest, while supplies last.

THE SERIES

  • Friday's game marks the 49th all-time between UW-River Falls and St. Olaf, with UWRF holding a 31-14-3 series lead.
    • Last season, the Oles prevailed 3-2 over the Falcons in Northfield, Minn. 
  • On Saturday, UWRF and Saint Mary's will meet 42nd time in the series history, the with Falcons leading 32-7-2.
    • Most recently, the Falcons and Cardinals met last season in Winona, Minn., which resulted in a 4-3 UWRF overtime victory, with Dylan Smith scoring the game-winning goal.

FALCON NOTES

  • UWRF snapped a four-game losing skid with a 3-0 win at the College of St. Scholastica last Saturday, Jan. 10 in Duluth, Minn., the Falcons' first shutout win of the season.
  • UWRF has six players with double-digit point totals, led by freshman forward Keenan Ingram with 18 points. He's also the WIAC's leading goal scorer with 11 goals and five power play goals.
  • The Falcons' power play is converting at 26.7% (12-for-45), leading the WIAC and significantly higher than opponents (17.5%). 
  • UWRF has scored more goals in the second period (18) than any other frame this season.
    • The Falcons are 2-0 in overtime, and have allowed just 10 first-period goals in 15 games, holding opponents to their lowest scoring output early.
  • UWRF blocks an average of 10.4 shots per game, led by the WIAC leader Luke Margenau, who's totaled 44.
  • Max Collette has anchored the Falcons down the middle, leading the WIAC with 187 faceoff wins.
  • Senior goaltender Brennan Boynton has started in 14 of 15 games in net, and leads the WIAC with 28.5 saves per game. He ranks second with a .926 save percentage and a 2.3 goals against average.
