RIVER FALLS, Wis. – The UW-River Falls women's lacrosse team used a dominant opening quarter and a balanced offensive effort to defeat Lake Forest College 22-1 Friday afternoon at Ramer Field.
The Falcons, now 4-2 overall with their fourth win in a row, were led by a 10-point effort by
Samantha Hayek, with five goals and five assists. With her 10 points, she passed Emma Kohlbeck to become the UWRF all-time leading scorer with 208 career points. Kohlbeck held the previous record with 200 career points (2019-22).
River Falls finished with a decisive edge in nearly every statistical category, highlighted by a program single-game record nine man-up goals. UWRF held a 47-10 advantage in shots and a 32-24 margin in ground balls. The Falcons also controlled the draw circle, winning 17 draws compared to eight for the Foresters.
UWRF seized control immediately, scoring 10 goals in the opening quarter. The Falcons capitalized on several early penalties by Lake Forest, converting five man-up opportunities in a row as they raced out to a commanding lead before the first period ended.
The Falcons continued to extend the advantage throughout the afternoon, adding three goals in the second quarter and five more in the third to take an 18-0 lead heading into the final period. UWRF added four more goals in the fourth quarter to cap the scoring.
Behind Hayek's 10 points,
Avery Watzke added six goals, while
Elizabeth Clough scored four times to pace the Falcons' attack.
Megan Peter contributed two goals and four assists, and
Macy Patton recorded two goals and two assists.
Annelise Rommeck earned the win in goal for the Falcons, making three saves over the first three quarters.
Abby Hammond played the final 15 minutes and recorded five saves.
Next week, the Falcons head to Georgia to face Oglethrorpe University and Berry College, March 18-19.
