Falcons Fly South for Georgia Matchups Against Oglethorpe and Berry

The UW-River Falls women's lacrosse team travels south this week for a pair of nonconference matchups in Georgia, beginning with Oglethorpe University on Wednesday afternoon before taking on Berry College on Thursday evening.

River Falls enters the trip following a dominant stretch of play that has seen the Falcons win four straight games. The Falcons most recently rolled past Lake Forest, 22-1, improving their overall record to 4-2 on the season.

THE SERIES

Wednesday's matchup will mark the second meeting all-time between UW-River Falls and Oglethorpe University. The two programs first met during the 2023 season in Sewanee, Tennessee, where the Stormy Petrels edged the Falcons in a contested 16-15 game. The loss remains the only meeting between the two programs, giving Oglethorpe a 1-0 advantage heading into Wednesday.  

Thursday's contest against Berry College will mark the first-ever meeting between the Falcons and Vikings in program history.

FALCON NOTES

The Falcons have been one of the most explosive offensive teams early this season, averaging 15.67 goals per game while outscoring opponents 94-42 through six contests.

Leading the charge offensively has been Samantha Hayek, who has tallied 24 goals and 13 assists for a team-high 37 points. Avery Watzke ranks second on the squad with 17 goals, while Elizabeth Clough has added 15 goals and three game-winners.

River Falls has showcased balanced scoring throughout the lineup, with Macy Patton (10 goals, 3 assists), Natasha Berthiaume (9 goals, 8 assists), and Megan Peter (5 goals, 6 assists) all contributing to the Falcons' attack.

Defensively, Julia Hayek has anchored the unit with 22 ground balls and 12 caused turnovers, while Annelise Rommeck has handled the majority of minutes in goal with 29 saves and a 4-2 record.
