Falcons Rebound in a Big Way, Down NYU in Five Innings

WINTER HAVEN, Fla. – The UW-River Falls softball team split its Thursday slate at THE Spring Games in Winter Haven, Florida, falling to Wellesley, 7-2, before bouncing back with a 10-0 (5 inn.) run-rule victory over New York University.

In the opener, the Falcons created early opportunities but couldn't keep pace with Wellesley's hitting. After falling behind 2-0, UWRF answered in the third inning, capitalizing on aggressive baserunning to tie the game at 2-2. Addison Eaton led the Falcons with three hits, while Lacie Lilyquist drove in a run with a sacrifice fly.

Wellesley responded with a four-run fourth inning and added another in the sixth to pull away for the 7-2 win. The Falcons totaled six hits, including doubles from Caitlyn Kressel and Abby Pitts, but were unable to sustain offense late.

UW-River Falls flipped the script in game two, delivering a complete performance in a 10-0 shutout of NYU in five innings. The Falcons jumped out early with two runs in the first before the fourth and fifth innings where the Falcons put four on the board each inning to secure the run-rule victory.

Leah Oistad led the offensive surge with three RBIs, while Addison Eaton added two RBIs and scored twice. Caitlyn Kressel crossed the plate three times and added a double, and Lacie Lilyquist had two hits and an RBI as part of an eight-hit game.

In the circle, Hailey Kincaid was dominant, tossing a complete-game shutout while allowing just six hits to earn the win. The Falcons backed her with a clean defensive effort, committing no errors in the victory.
