MOUNT BERRY, Ga. – The UW-River Falls women's lacrosse team closed out its Georgia road trip with a 10-6 victory over Berry College on Thursday afternoon, using a strong defensive effort to secure the win.
The Falcons once again leaned on their top playmakers, with Samantha Hayek continuing to drive the offense. The senior attacker helped facilitate scoring opportunities recording three goals and assisting on three more. Murphi Specht backed up Hayek with three goals and one assist.
Defensively, River Falls turned in one of its more composed efforts of the season. Julia Hayek anchored the defensive with her ability to disrupt possessions, recording four caused turnovers. Eleanor Thompson-Witt contributed to limiting Berry's chances with three caused turnovers. The Falcons forced a total of 11 caused turnovers compared to Berry's 3 throughout the game.
In goal, Annelise Rommeck provided steady play with 16 saves and made key stops to hold Berry to just six goals and preserve the Falcons' lead down the stretch.
With the win, UWRF improves to 6-2 overall and completes a perfect 2-0 trip in Georgia following Wednesday's victory over Oglethorpe.
The Falcons will now return to River Falls and shift their focus to WIAC play, where they are set to take on the College of Saint Benedict in their next matchup.
