UWRF Opens WIAC Play After Strong Georgia Trip

The UW-River Falls women's lacrosse team returns to Wisconsin after a successful two-game trip to Georgia, where the Falcons picked up wins over Oglethorpe University (24-13) and Berry College (10-6). The trip extended River Falls' winning streak and pushed the team to 6-2 overall as they enter conference play this week.

UWRF now turns its focus to a three-game week, beginning with its WIAC opener on Wednesday, March 25, at the College of Saint Benedict in St. Joseph, Minnesota. Opening draw is set for 5 p.m. The Falcons will return to River Falls Friday, March 27, to face Augsburg for a 4:30 p.m. matchup in a game dedicated to Morgan's Message. The Falcons will then host Carroll University at 2 p.m. on Saturday for Parent Appreciation Day.

FALCON NOTES

  • The Falcons have been powered by 16 goals per game through eight contests. Samantha Hayek continues to lead the way with 52 points, including 31 goals and 21 assists, while Avery Watzke has added 22 goals of her own.
  • Elizabeth Clough has been a consistent scoring threat with 19 goals, including three game-winners, and Natasha Berthiaume has contributed across the board with 12 goals and 11 assists. Macy Patton adds 11 goals and making an impact defensively with nine draw control and nine caused turnovers.
  • Defensively, UWRF has held opponents to just 7.63 goals per game. Annelise Rommeck has been steady in goal with 49 saves, while the Falcons' defense has created opportunities with 110 caused turnovers and 228 ground balls.
  • Anna Plath and Morgan Leick have controlled possession in the midfield with 25 & 24 draw controls, respectively.  
  • With conference play set to begin and a full weekend ahead, the Falcons will look to carry their energy from Georgia into a pivotal week of competition.
