RIVER FALLS, Wis. – The UW-River Falls women's lacrosse team delivered a dominant performance in its WIAC home opener Friday afternoon, defeating Augsburg 26-0, highlighting Morgan's Message, "Taking a Shot at Mental Health".
The Falcons wasted no time setting the tone with 13 first-quarter goals and never looking back. UW-River Falls controlled every aspect of the game, outshooting Augsburg 47-0 and holding a decisive edge in draw controls (22-6) and ground balls (21-11).
Avery Watzke led the offensive surge with four goals, while Samantha Hayek and Elizabeth Clough each added three goals apiece. Hayek also had three assists for a six-point performance. The Falcons showcased their depth with 15 different players finding the back of the net in the win.
UW-River Falls continued to build its lead throughout the contest, adding five goals in the second quarter, four in the third, and four more in the fourth to cap off the 26-goal performance. The Falcons were also very efficient on free-position opportunities, converting eight of their 10 attempts.
Defensively, the Falcons were flawless. Augsburg was held without a single shot, marking a complete team effort on the defensive end. Three goalkeepers, Annelise Rommeck, Isabel Orton, and Abby Hammond combined for the shutout.
With the win, UW-River Falls improves to 8-2 overall and 2-0 in WIAC play.
The Falcons will return to Ramer Field on Saturday, March 29, as they host Carroll University for Parent Appreciation Day.
