RIVER FALLS, Wis. – Under the lights at Ramer Field, the UW-River Falls women's lacrosse team delivered another impressive 21-7 victory over Hamline University on Wednesday evening. The Falcons improve to 13-2 overall and remain perfect in WIAC play at 6-0.
Prior to the opening draw, the Falcons recognized graduating athletes Kinlee Knutson, Samantha and Julia Hayek, Cassie Johnson, Avery Watzke, Eleanor Thompson-Witt, Abby Hammond, Lilah Gilyard, and Brooke Glumack for their contributions to the program.
River Falls wasted little time asserting control. The Falcons opened the game on a 7-2 run in the first quarter and never looked back, carrying a 10 point lead into halftime. UWRF's offensive abilities were on full display as the Falcons outshot Hamline 44-13, 24 of which were on goal.
Leading the charge for the Falcons was Samantha Hayek and Elizabeth Clough, who each netted five goals while both adding an assist. Avery Watzke finished with three goals and two assists, while Murphi Specht added three goals of her own. As a team, River Falls totaled nine assists on 21 goals.
Defensively, the Falcons controlled the pace with 27 ground balls and forced 34 Hamline turnovers. They also dominated the draw circle, winning 19 draw controls compared to Hamline's 11.
Senior Abby Hammond earned the start in goal on Senior Night and picked up the win, recording two saves while allowing seven goals across 60 minutes of action.
After extending their win streak and continuing their unbeaten run in conference play, the Falcons look to the weekend. The Falcons will face Colorado College this Sunday, on Ramer Field at 12 p.m.
