Schutz Breaks Program Record at Uncaged Eagle Open

LA CROSSE, Wis. – A group of UW-River Falls track and field athletes made one final push toward NCAA Outdoor Championship qualification Friday evening at the Uncaged Eagle Open, hosted by UW-La Crosse.

Leading the way was senior high jumper Yaih Marial, who cleared 2.02m to finish third overall in the men's high jump competition.

On the track, Tyler Parker turned in another momentous performance in the men's 800m. The sophomore crossed in 1:51.10, finishing fourth overall. The time moves Parker to No. 2 all-time in UW-River Falls program history.

In the throws, Lauryn Schutz highlighted the evening with a program-record toss in the women's hammer throw. Schutz launched a throw of 53.55m to break the previous school record and finish sixth overall in the event.

Alexis Koch added a strong showing in the hammer throw as well, posting a mark of 49.54m, while Ali Clifford posted a 46.25m in the hammer throw and a 13.08m heave in the shot put.  In the women's discus throw, Maleah Petersen added another solid mark for the Falcons with a throw of 41.91m.

Also competing for River Falls was Annika Gunderson in the women's pole vault, where she cleared a season best 3.85m to place seventh overall in the field.

With competition complete, the Falcons now turn their attention toward NCAA Outdoor Championship selections, which will determine qualifiers for the national meet hosted later this month in La Crosse, Wis.
