Men's Basketball Advances to WIAC Final with 76-51 Win Over UW-Stevens Point

Ollie White had 22 points and eight rebounds and Shane Manor added 12 points as the Falcon men's basketball team defeated UW-Stevens Point, 76-51, in the WIAC tournament semi finals on Friday night at the Karges Center.

The Falcons defeated the Pointers for the third straight time this season and advance to the WIAC tournament final.

White went 10-11 from the field and totaled 22 points and 8 rebounds as he lead the team in both categories. Manor had 12 points including three dunks. Wade Guerin recorded ten points and six rebounds. Aaron Anderson had nine points, all off three-pointers, and Brian Kimble added eight points and six assists.

The Falcons started the game fast and never looked back as they jumped out to a, seven-point, 20-13 lead with 11:02 to play in the first half. UW-Stevens Point tried to claw their way back the rest of the half, but couldn't match the Falcons 66.7 first half shooting percentage. The Falcons would begin to pull away as the first half ended and took a 38-23 lead into halftime.

In the second half, the Falcons showed their dominance as they opened the half with a 10-0 run to extend their lead to 48-23. Manor's dunk with 7:49 to play in the second half extended the lead to 26 as the Falcons continued to play a solid basketball game. Jordan Crockett's three-pointer from the wing with 59 seconds remaining sealed the 76-51 victory for UWRF.

The Falcons shot 58.5 percent from the field in the game and also recorded a 46.2 percent mark from beyond the arch. UW-Stevens Point struggled in both areas as they shot just 35.1 percent from the field and 28.6 percent from three-point range. UWRF also converted on eight of nine at the free throw line. UWSP made seven of their 11 free throws.

UWRF outscored UWSP 44-20 inside the paint thanks to big contributions from White and Guerin. The Falcons also got 18 points off of turnovers.

The win gives the Falcons a 3-0 season sweep of UW-Stevens Point.

UWRF will move on to play at UW-Whitewater on Sunday, February 26 at 2 pm. The winner will be crowned WIAC tournament champion and receive an automatic bid into the NCAA DIII basketball tournament. In their last meeting, on February 18, UW-Whitewater defeated UWRF at the Karges Center, 55-53.
