Box Score The Falcon men's basketball team used some hot shooting from the floor in a 79-66 win over Ashford College on Sunday at the UW-Stout Thanksgiving Tournament.
The Falcons shot 25-49 (.510) from the floor, which is very good, but were even better from three-point range, shooting 13-21 (.619), which is the team's best effort this season.
The Falcons never trailed in the game and the contest was tied just once - 9-9 - early in the first half. The Falcons started the game hitting two threes - the first by
Devin Buckley and the second by
Ben Gresmer to jump out to a 6-0 lead,
With 7:19 to play in the first half the Falcons led by one, 31-30. But the Falcons went on a 10-2 run to take a 42-32 lead with 4:45 to play.
Grant Erickson hit two threes and
Ollie White one in the run. The Falcons held a 46-36 lead at the half.
The closest Ashford was able to get in the second half was seven points, but the Falcons hot shooting kept their opponent from gaining a long stretch of momentum. The Falcons led by double digits for the last 6:29 of the contest.
Gresmer led the Falcons with a career-high 19 points. He was 4-7 from the field and a near perfect 4-5 from behind the arc. He was also 7-8 from the line.
David Berthene came off the bench to score 13 points which ties his season high. The team's leading scorer,
Ollie White, scored 11 points and
Grant Erickson added 10. Erickson led the Falcons with two steals and five assists.
Connor Goodwin, who scored six points, led UWRF with six rebounds.
Ashford's Damon Overton led all scorers with 20 points. Ashford shot almost 61 percent (14-23) from the field in the first half, but the Falcon defense step up in the second half when Ashford shot just 35 percent (11-31).
The Falcons, now 3-3 overall, open WIAC play on Wednesday at UW-La Crosse. Action starts at 7 p.m.
