Box Score Four UW-River Falls Falcon men's basketball players scored doubt digits in the team's 70-64 victory at home over UW-Stout for its first WIAC win of the season and givng Stout just their second overall loss this season.
The first half of play was back and forth with both teams staying close the whole time. Stout had the largest lead of the half and their largest lead of the game at 7:12 when they jumped out to a 26-19 lead off of a Jimmy Whitehead three pointer. Whitehead finished with a game high 29 points.
Stout took a 35-33 lead into halftime.
The back and forth action continued in the second half. There were four lead changes and the game was tied four times this evening. The game was tied for the final time with just 2:18 left in the game.
Ollie White scored on a layup with 1:18 to break the tie and UWRF would have full control the last minute. White finished with 16 points on 4-8 shooting and went 8-13 from the free throw line.
Ben Gressmer led UWRF in scoring with 17 points going 4-7 from the field. All four his field goals were from behind the three point arc and he added five free throws. As a team the Falcons shot 6-16 from three point land.
Jay Sewer contributed 15 points, four assists, and five rebounds off the bench and
David Berthene had 13 points, two assists, and two rebounds off the bench. He went 4-4 from the charity stripe. As a team the Falcons went 26-36 (72.2%) from the line. UWRF had 30 points scored from the bench.
Connor Goodwin led in rebounds with six. UWRF grabbed 26 rebounds and the Blue Devils had 29 total rebounds in the game.
The Falcons went 19-42 (45.2%) from the field and Stout shot 23-47 (48.9%).
The loss for Stout drops them to 7-2 overall. The Falcons move to 4-5 overall on the season. The Falcons will have nine days off before playing at home on Dec. 20 against Luther College with tip-off set for 7 p.m.
