Box Score

The UWRF men's basketball team started WIAC conference play with an 80-52 loss at the University Wisconsin-La Crosse on Wednesday night.

Three Falcons scored in double figures despite the loss. Senior forward's Ben Gresmer and Ollie White both tallied 13 points, while junior guard Jay Sewer contributed 10.

White added four rebounds and three steals, and has now scored in double figures in all seven games this season. His three steals were a team-high and a season-high, respectively.

Gresmer continued his hot shooting, hitting five of 10 attempts from the field, while hitting 3-5 from 3-point land. He added two rebounds and two steals to his game totals.

Sewer was a perfect 3-3 from the line, with two rebounds and three assists.

The Wisconsin-La Crosse Eagles jumped out to a sizable early lead, outscoring the Falcons 49-26 in the first half. UWRF slowly began to crawl back into the ballgame, cutting the lead to 12 early in the second half, but were eventually outscored 31-26 in the frame.

Freshman guard Grant Erickson had a team-high five rebounds and a team-high five assists for the Falcons. He also added five points. Erickson has tallied at least three rebounds in every contest this season.

Freshman guard Devin Buckley had a solid five points and four rebounds in just 16 minutes of play, while freshman forward Dalton Pulis recorded the Falcons' lone blocked shot. He also nabbed two rebounds off the bench.

13 of 14 players scored for the Eagles, with sophomore forward Calahan Skogman leading the way with 15 points.

The Eagles were nearly unstoppable from the field, shooting 58.3 percent, while hitting 45 percent of their 3-pointers.

UWRF's free-throw percentage was a lowly 47.8 percent, certainly attributing to the loss.

UWRF was in foul trouble all evening as six players had at least three fouls.

The Falcons bench was outscored 46-12 for the game. Bench scoring has proven to be crucial for UWRF this season.

Turnovers and rebounding were not issues as the Falcons only lost 13 turnovers and were merely a minus-6 in the rebound department.

La Crosse trailed only once in the contest, at 3-1.

The loss halted the Falcons' win streak at two games, dropping their overall record to 3-4; 0-1 in the WIAC.

The Eagles improved to 5-1 overall with the victory; 1-0 in WIAC conference play.

The Falcons (3-4) play their first conference home game on Saturday night against the University of Wisconsin-Platteville Pioneers. The tip is at 7 p.m.
