Box Score The UW-River Falls Falcons got out to a hot start this evening but fell 67-48 at UW-Stout against the Blue Devils.
The Falcons got out to a 21-9 lead early in the game just under eight minutes into the first half led by a hot start for
Jay Sewer. Sewer started the game 3-3 from behind the arc. He finished with 13 points and also had seven assists for a season high.
After the hot start UWRF only managed five points the rest of the half while Stout clawed back into the game by changing the pace. UWRF ran the floor most of the game while UWS slowed things down and used the majority of the shot clock every possession. The Blue Devils led at half 27-26 over the Falcons.
Ben Gresmer started the half with a three pointer for the Falcons to pull them ahead 29-27 but it was the last time they would lead. Gresmer finished with 12 points and four rebounds.
With 11:59 to go in the game the Blue Devils had a 42-32 lead. They attacked the paint all day led by Jay Higgins with 15 points and Jimmy Whitehead with 13 points.
UWRF had one more push as a comeback and got within three points after an
Ollie White and one play to make the score 42-39 with 9:56 to go in the game. White finished with a team high 15 points and a team high six rebounds.
UWRF would pull within in three one more time when Jordan Crocket created a spark off the bench. Crocket hit a mid range jumper and a thee point basket to make it a 47-44 game with 8:24 to go.
From that point on UWRF only managed four points and were dominated inside by UWS. Stout finished 27-51 shooting (52.9%) the majority coming inside the paint and outrebounded UWRF 40-21 in the game. UWRF finished 18-47 (38.3%) in the game.
The Falcons fall to 7-12 overall on the season and 2-8 in the WIAC.
UWRF will play next at UW-Oshkosh this Saturday with tip off set for 3 p.m. The last time the two teams met came down to the wire and a last second shot with the Falcons falling 65-63 in the game. UWO is sixth in the WIAC right now and UWRF is seventh.
