Box Score Ollie White scored a career high 28 points this evening against UW-Eau Claire in the UW-River Falls Falcons alumni game. UWRF fell 73-65 in the game.
The back and forth game that had the strong performance from White also featured a 39 point performance from UWEC's Adam Hjelter and a delay in the middle due to a pulled fire alarm.
Hjelter hit three three pointers just moments into the game and would never cool off the rest of the game. Ben Gresmer hit two big first half three pointers for UWRF. He finished with 15 points on 6-11 shooting including 3-4 from behind the arc and grabbed four rebounds. UWEC led 30-29 at half. The score was tied three times and the game saw seven lead changes in the first half.
White did the majority of his second half scoring from the charity stripe. He went 12-16 from the line, 7-11 from the field and added a team high eight rebounds in the game.
Down the stretch with under three minutes to go UWEC hit two lay ups to go up by six. Under the two minute mark Hjelter went to the free throw line often and connected to never let UWRF pull back in. He finished 13-14 from the line and 10-15 from the field including hitting on six three pointers.
Devin Buckley who saw his first big minutes since getting injured earlier this season hit a big three point basketball and two free throws to pull UWRF within single digits with 43 seconds to go. David Berthene connected from behind the arc after two UWEC missed free throws with 30 seconds left to bring UWRF within five down 67-62. That is the closest the Falcons would get within again.
UWRF finished 20-46 (43.5%) from the field, 8-20 (40%) from behind the arc, and 17-24 (70.8%) from the line. They grabbed 29 rebounds in the game while UWEC had 33 boards.
The loss bumps UWRF to 7-15 overall on the season and 2-11 in the WIAC. They only have three games left and will have a week off before UW-Stevens Point at home next Saturday with tip off set for 7 p.m.
