The UW-River Falls Falcon women's tennis team traveled to Winona on Sunday, March 21 to open their season against the Winona State University Warriors in a non-conference matchup at the Winona Indoor Tennis Center.
The Falcons competed extremely hard in their first match in over a year and were very competitive against the Warriors (6-3), but failed to earn a point losing 7-0.
The Warriors gained an early lead capturing the doubles team point with wins at all three positions. The singles matches showcased the off season preparation the Falcon team has been logging with competitive play at all positions.
Despite the somewhat lopsided loss, Coach Dan Stumpf is very optimistic about the team.
"We did not get a lot out of the final scores, but we got a lot out of our individual matches," Coach Stumpf said. "This was a good test for us and every player battled extremely hard the entire match. We will build off this experience and continue to get better."
The Falcon will be back in action this weekend with their first match coming on Friday, March 26 at Northwestern University St. Paul at 6:30pm, then they will host Wartburg College on Saturday, March 27 at 9:30am.
