CLERMONT, Fla. - The UW-River Falls softball team remained unbeaten during its Florida spring break trip with wins on Tuesday over Smith College and St. Norbert College.
With its seventh and eighth straight victories, the Falcons improve to 8-3 overall.
Tomorrow, UWRF will face Salve Regina and Concordia-Wisconsin.
UW-River Falls 12, Smith 10
The Falcons tallied a season-high 15 hits during game one of the day, scoring runs in all but the second inning.
UWRF's top-three batters in the lineup;
Kelly Aultman,
Johanna Breyen, and
Keegan Piton all logged three base hits, while
Hannah Richards went 4-for-4 at the plate.
After smith took an early 1-0 lead, the Falcons' bats put together two-run innings in the first, third, and fourth innings, and took a 10-4 lead after a five-run fifth inning.
Smith rallied in the sixth, scoring six runs to trim the UWRF lead to 11-10, but an RBI double from Aultman in the bottom half put the Falcons up 12-10.
Lindsey Duggan shut the door to earn the save.
UW-River Falls 9, St. Norbert 8
The Falcons scored seven of its nine runs in the fifth inning to take an 8-1 lead before St. Norbert answered in the sixth to tie the game at 8-8.
Keegan Piton came up clutch again with the game-winning RBI in the seventh, granting the Falcons a 9-8 win. The sophomore infielder was named the WIAC Position Player of the Week after recording a pair of walk-off singles during wins over Southern Maine and Curry over the weekend.
In the fifth, UWRF scored seven off five hits, including two runs batted in each from
Megan Halvorson and Piton.
Seven Falcons logged at least one base hit, led by three hits from
Johanna Breyen and two doubles each from Piton and Halvorson.
Juliana Reynolds went 6.2 innings in the pitcher's circle to earn the win, improving her record to 4-2 on the season.
