Falcons split Thursday games versus New Paltz & Rowan

CLERMONT, Fla. - The UW-River Falls softball team split a pair of one-run games on Thursday, March 17 during its Florida spring trip, falling 4-3 to New Paltz prior to a walk-off 3-2 win over Rowan University.

The Falcons, now 9-4 overall, saw their eight-game winning streak come to an end with a 4-3 extra inning loss to New Paltz, but bounced with a victory over Roway, UWRF's fourth walk-off win of the spring trip.

Tomorrow, UWRF is set to face Ramapo and Plattsburgh State.

New Paltz 4, UW-River Falls 3 (9 inn.)
After five scoreless innings, the Falcons and Hawks traded runs in the sixth inning to force extras, locked at 1-1 after seven.

A Grace Petersen RBI single gave UWRF its first lead of the game, and a 2-RBI single from Keegan Piton put UWRF ahead 3-1 in the eighth. 

New Paltz answered in the bottom of the eighth to tie the game and scored the game-winner in the ninth, walking-off with the one-run victory.

Both teams had nine hits, led by two hits apiece from the Falcons' Johanna Breyen, Piton, and Petersen.

Corinne Roe pitched 8.1 innings for UWRF, allowing two earned runs with four strikeouts.

UW-River Falls 3, Rowan 2
The Falcons earned their fourth walk-off win of the spring break trip with a Megan Halvorson single that scored Kimmy Guinn in the seventh.

Halvorson also gave UWRF an early lead in the second with a double to left field that scored Jewel Waupekenay.

Down 2-1 after the fourth, Piton double to score Kelly Aultman to tied the game at 2-2 prior to Halvorson's clutch hit in the seventh.

Juliana Reynolds limited Rowan to just four base hits, pitching a complete game to improve her record to 5-2.

UWRF totaled 11 hits, led by a 3-for-4 performance from Halvorson.
