Petersen, Piton, Aultman, and Roe earn All-WIAC honors

MADISON, Wis. - The Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) announced its 2022 Softball postseason awards on Tuesday, May 10, with Grace Petersen, Keegan Piton, Kelly Aultman, and Corinne Roe representing UW-River Falls on the All-WIAC Team.

Petersen and Piton were named to the First Team, while Aultman and Roe were Honorable Mentions. Additionally, Bri Daechsel was named to the All-Sportsmanship Team.

A senior catcher from Joliet, Ill., Grace Petersen started in 29 of 31 regular season games, compiling a .389 batting average with 35 hits in 90 at bats, including seven doubles and 18 runs batted in. Defensively, she finished second on the team with 139 putouts, and threw out five runners on the base paths. 

Keegan Piton, a sophomore shortstop from Green Bay, Wis., led the Falcons and finished second in the WIAC during the regular season with a .452 batting average. She was one of four Falcons to start in all 31 regular season games, and finished among the top-10 in the WIAC in slugging percentage (.606), on-base percentage (.504), OPS (1.110), hits (47), RBI (36), and doubles (10). She was named the WIAC Player of the Week on March 15, and strung together a 17-game hitting streak from March 12-April 19.

A freshman third baseman from Plainfield, Ill., Kelly Aultman started in all 31 regular season games and ranked third on the team behind Piton and Petersen with a .330 batting average. She totaled 25 runs batted in off 35 hits, including 10 doubles and a team-high three homers. She also reached base on balls 16 times, the fourth-most in the WIAC. In the field, she led the Falcons with 64 assists. 

Corinne Roe, a senior pitcher and native of Apple Valley, Minn., compiled a 4.14 ERA and 4-5 record in 67.2 innings pitched, including six complete games and 31 strikeouts in 15 appearances with 12 starts. Among WIAC competition, she ranked fourth in the league with 42 innings pitched during the conference schedule. Against UW-Platteville during the regular season finale on May 2, Roe helped the Falcons clinched a playoff spot with a complete game shutout, limiting the Pioneers to just two hits in eight innings pitched.

The Falcons finished the 2022 season with a 17-16 overall record and 6-8 WIAC ledger.
