PRESCOTT, Wis. — The UW-River Falls men's and women's cross country teams opened the 2024 season on Saturday, Sept. 7, hosting the second annual Rivertown Invite in Prescott, Wis. at Prescott High School.
The Falcons scored 33 points to place second in the men's 8k team scores, while the women's team placed third in the team standings with 74 points. Minnesota-Duluth won on the men's side while Carleton won on the women's side.

On the men's side, junior Logan Munson was the Falcons' top finisher in the 8k, placing fourth overall with a time of 26:56.10. Freshman Ryan Pierson was one spot behind in fifth place, clocking in at 27:14.10 in his first collegiate race. UWRF saw top-10 finishes from Wyatt Johnson (7th, 27:18.50), Levi Miest (8th, 27:19.80), and Jack Richter (9th, 27:22.00).
John Fritts (15th, 28:09.80) and Carson Buckli (17th, 28:18.90) rounded out the top seven finishers for River Falls.
In the women's 6k, the Falcons were led by freshman Adison Wilde, who placed 14th overall with a time of 24:14.45 in her first collegiate race. Sophomore Laina Viere placed 17th with a time of 24:43.02, followed by junior Peyton Opsahl's 18th-place finish with a time of 24:52.94.
Jaidyn McAlpine (21st, 25:09.78), Emma Karnitz (29th, 25:45.75), Kate Jenkins (31st, 26:25.23), and Amber Lawrence (32nd, 26:30.47) rounded out the top seven finishers for the Falcons in the 6k.
