Steve Peterson Elevated to Women's Soccer Associate Head Coach

RIVER FALLS, Wis. – UW-River Falls women's soccer head coach Sean McKuras announced the promotion of Steve Peterson from assistant coach to associate head coach.

"We are proud to announce the promotion of Steve Peterson to associate head coach," McKuras commented. "His experience at multiple levels of the game, combined with his unwavering commitment to our student-athletes makes him an invaluable asset to our program. We are excited to continue building our future with Steve in this expanded leadership role."

Peterson enters his 15th season with the UWRF women's soccer coaching staff in 2025, having joined the staff as a student assistant coach in 2008. In addition to his role at UWRF, Peterson is deeply involved in the broader soccer community. He serves on staff with Minnesota's Olympic Development Program and is currently the head coach of a Girls Academy team and a leader within Salvo Soccer Club.

"I'm incredibly honored to be promoted to associate head women's soccer coach at UWRF," Peterson said. "It's been a privilege to serve as an assistant coach, and I'm excited to continue growing with this program in a new role. I'm grateful for the trust and support from Sean McKuras and I look forward to building on the momentum we've created with this amazing group of student-athletes."

Steve is a 2012 graduate of UWRF with a degree in business administration and a minor in coaching. He received his master's degree in coaching and athletic administration at Concordia University Irvine.

The Falcons, coming off a WIAC Tournament Semifinals appearance last year, officially kick off the 2025 season at home this fall during the season opener against Crown College on Friday, Aug. 29.
